Five options for rabbit control

A night drive into town a few weeks ago revealed a high numbers of rabbits down our road; imagine my surprise when there was three sitting in my driveway awaiting my return! 

And so, it's time for some rabbit control!

As I'm surrounded by neighbors, I thought it best not to resort to controlling these furry little beasts the old fashioned farming way (with a shotgun). 

If you're on a smaller lifestyle block like me, then here's five other steps you can take to get your rabbit population under control. 

1- Repellent
2- Poison
3- Trapping
4- Fumigating
5- Fencing

1- Repellent, this works well on specific areas e.g. trees, shrubs that get eaten, but in my case they don't seem to be doing any visual damage - I just want them gone before they do!
2 Poison, I would always steer clear of this method, especially if your neighbors have dogs and cats as they could eat the poison or a poisoned carcass.
3 - Trapping, probably the best option for our place. Make sure you purchase rabbit specific traps as these are unlikely to trap any other animal.
4- Fumigation, this option poisons the little blighters when they are in the burrow, this won't work for me as I have yet to see a burrow at my place.
5 Fencing- this would have to be the most effective method of control, but also the most expensive, requiring 25-30mm mesh size, 800mm high and 200mm in the ground. And it also means opening a closing a rabbit proof gate every day!

So it looks like I am off to town today to get some rabbit traps!
